One time,
there was a movie I wanted to make about a man who sees a beached whale on a city street. He tries to pour water on it, keep it alive, somehow get it back to the ocean. He can't get anyone to help him though, and the whale dies.

I abandoned this project, but still remain fascinated by the idea of the beached whale. As do others.

The mortality of a whale is something you don't encounter too much in life, so for one to die (or kill itself) in the realm of man is indescribably tragic.

Still reading Moby Dick.

moby dick is my favorite book. you can read it over and over throughout your life. you can go to all weekend readings in massachussetts where people stay up for fourty eight hours and each read a chapter. i recently caught a goofy movie of it that was probably made in the sixties? what does the whale represent for you? for me it represents chasing after a truth in its purest form, which is inevitably unattainable.

...One of my friends had just gotten back from Kauai a couple weeks ago and while she was there this happened. There was a ceremony held for the whale and everyone was invited, then it was euthanized...
